PETRUS prepares for a fully functional and harmonized EuroQCI by covering all relevant fields, coordinating national QCIs, using EU-27 components, and adhering to European accreditation and certification policies. PETRUS brings deep knowledge of QKD technology, security expertise, system design and architecture experience, and practical deployment and network operations knowhow. PETRUS follows a three-step process: capture relevant data, evaluate with existing EuroQCI studies, and educate national QCI project contacts, while maintaining transparent communication with relevant parties.

Deutsche Telekom | Senior Network Architect
Matthias Gunkel is a Senior Network Architect within Deutsche Telekom group in Darmstadt, Germany. After his PhD in telecommunications from Darmstadt Technical University, he joined Deutsche Telekom in 1999, where he was initially responsible for high-speed high-capacity optical transmission systems, flex-grid network architecture as well “IP plus Optical” multilayer network implementations. Since 2017 he is involved in various DT’s activities towards the preparation of practical carrier-grade QKD platform roll-out. Within the coordination and support action PETRUS, Matthias is responsible for work package 4 on Architecture & Operations where he contributes with his expertise in how to design and operate terrestrial networks.
AIT Austrian Institute of technology | WP5 Lead
Hannes Hübel obtained his PhD in 2004 in experimental physics from Queen Mary, University of London, UK. After several academic positions in Austria, Canada and Sweden, he joined AIT in 2015 where he holds the position of Thematic Coordinator for all Quantum Technology activities at AIT. As senior scientist he is also responsible for the experimental QKD development at the AIT. He is very much involved in the European Quantum Technology Flagship effort as coordinator of the UNIQORN project as well as the OPENQKD project. Besides his scientific work, he is also consulting the European Commission on the deployment plans for its large quantum communication initiative, the EuroQCI.

Oleg Nikiforov studied physics at Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. During his PhD there, he implemented a QKD system and contributed to the development of a star-shaped QKD network. In collaboration with Deutsche Telekom he conducted one of the first field-tests of QKD systems in a standard telecom environment in Germany.
Now, in his role as a solution designer Oleg works on the architecture of quantum networks and represents Deutsche Telekom at international standards developing organizations
Airbus | WP3 Lead
Johanna Sepúlveda has an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering – Microelectronics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. She has worked as a Senior Researcher in security and emerging technologies at the University of South Brittany, INRIA, and the Technical University of Munich. Currently, she is the Airbus Expert on Quantum-Secure Technologies and Chief Engineer of various European quantum initiatives such as EuroQCI. Johanna is also a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of Quantum Technologies for the European Commission and leads the Strategic Industry Roadmap at QuIC. She has over 15 years of experience in R&T and R&D in security, networked systems, HPC, and quantum technologies.
Deutsche Telekom| WP6 Lead
Felix is a theoretical physicist who received his degree in solid-state physics and a PhD in statistical physics from TU Darmstadt. For over ten years, he worked in the engineering department of DT on different network concepts and architectures. Since 2016, he has been heavily involved in quantum cryptography, participating in research projects such as the Quantum Flagship, CiViQ, OpenQKD, and QCI4EU. Felix coordinated R&D collaborations and was the technical lead for the EuroQCI detailed design study QSAFE. He holds several positions in boards and bodies, including the Quantum Coordination Board and the Chair of the German QuNet Advisory Board. He further investigates quantum communications in the QSNP.
