On the 10th June, Keith had the pleasure of joining Pierre-Antoine Juglaret from Thales at a remarkable event hosted at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy — celebrating the inauguration of JRC’s connection to EuroQCI via the Italian Quantum Backbone.
This new fibre link, distributing precise UTC time and quantum signals from INRiM – Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica, marks a milestone both institutionally and scientifically. It is the first official connection between a European Commission site and EuroQCI — enabling not only secure communication infrastructures but also innovative experimentation in quantum protocols and precise timing.
During the event, Keith had the opportunity to present the status of the Nostradamus Project, including its mission to develop a quantum testbed supporting future certification processes, the timeline aiming to hand over the testbed to JRC in 2027, and JRC’s role as the Future Hosting Entity (FHE) for the testbed being developed at the Thales site in Toulouse. In addition, He also shared updates on Petrus CSA that helps steer and structure EuroQCI’s overall progress.
A heartfelt thank you to the team at Joint Research Center Ispra for the warm welcome and congratulations on this important step forward in Europe’s quantum journey!
